Easy Scrambled Paneer Bhurji is a very simple and easy to prepare dish that requires just few ingredients and can be prepared in less than 15 minutes.
For the paneer either use the store bought or prepare the paneer at home in advance and refrigerate it. I had some homemade one, so used it.
This paneer bhuji resembles the ‘scrambled egg’ only here the crumbled cottage cheese or paneer is used instead of eggs. So why not call it ‘scrambled paneer bhurji’.
The pictures of the paneer bhurji was taken the last time I made it in January 2017. I remember sharing the pictures on social media too, but just noticed I hadn’t published the recipe on the blog and my content was still in the draft stage. So, here I go, posting the recipe and notes 6 months’ later.
When eating out, the most loved and ordered vegetarian dish would certainly be paneer. Paneer, the milk based Indian cheese is versatile and prepared in many different ways. The famous desserts of Calcutta; rasgulla, rasmalai, chenna are also prepared from paneer.
The cottage cheese or paneer is made by breaking milk by adding acid or lemon to curdle them by separating the whey from the curd. The residue after the whey is drained out is the cheese better known as paneer in India.
It is believed that paneer was introduced to India by the Afghan and the Iranian traders.
This recipe uses paneer in a crumbled form, called bhurji in North India.
Paneer is a good source of protein and calcium and is recommended by dietitian for weight loss too. I had undergone a weight loss program couple of years ago and my dietitian cum nutritionist suggested to include paneer in the diet at least twice a week. Paneer in salad, grilled paneer, paneer satay, paneer bhurji are healthier form of paneer preparations. Also eating paneer keeps your stomach full for hours and one does not feel the need to snack before the next meal.
The Scrambled Paneer Bhurji can be served with hot phulkas, parathas, or any bread. Is also good accompaniment served with main course. Can also be packed into lunchboxes for school or office.
