Khara, spicy or savory shankarpali is a very addictive snack that is made during Diwali. The sweet version of this shankarpali is popular in Gujarat and Maharashtra. In the south you will find the savory varieties, flavored with different kinds of spices.
My children love these and buy them often from the stores. All the more reason to make this for Diwali. Made some quantity a week ago so that I could share the recipe and pictures on the blog much before Diwali.
Turned out real tasty, the entire lot got over within a day. Planning to make more quantities soon.
The spices that you can mix to the dough are many, so just experiment and use what you prefer (garlic paste, green chilli paste, garam masala powder, cumin). I used just chilli powder, carrom seeds and sesame seeds.
