Spicy Crunchy Madras Mixture is a favorite snack of south India and is called ‘mixture’. In chemistry, mixture is a combination of two or more substances, perhaps that is why the name for this snack that has assortment of food items mixed together.
Several ingredients go into the making of ‘mixture’ Again this is up to one’s choice of what to add to enhance the taste.
Ideally made up of omapodi (sev), fried aval (poha), fried groundnuts, roasted grams, khara boondi.
The omapodi and khara boondi can be prepared earlier and kept in a jar. Refer to my Omapodi recipe to prepare the omapodi at home.
At our home, we start preparing the namkeens and sweets a week before Diwali festival. It is customary to distribute the Diwali snacks among family and friends. Every Diwali I continue to follow this tradition that I learnt from my mother, and later from my mother-in-law.
