Cucumber Chaas or Cucumber Buttermilk is similar to lassi and is a cooling drink made with curd that is thinned with water. In northern India they make sweet lassi as well as the namkeen lassi. In the south the spiced buttermilk is known by ‘masala mor’, ‘neer mor’, or ‘sambharam’.
The above are the traditional lassi or sambharam, today there are so many different variety of ingredients that are mixed with the curd or buttermilk. Just experiment with fruits, spices, vegetables and you create a new drink.
I have used cucumber, curry leaves, ginger, coriander with the buttermilk. The lassi after it is made should be strained as ginger and curry leaves are used. You would not want the ginger fibers in your mouth.
