Ginger Lemonade is a soothing drink with the beneficial herb ginger used in good quantity. The lemon mixed with the ginger cuts the spiciness of the ginger to give a nice refreshing taste.
Ginger, a herb and a spice, is widely used not only to give flavor to the food but for its medicinal qualities too. Our mothers and grannies made it a mandate to prepare ginger/inji kashayam or ginger/inji legiyam at least once in a fortnight. This was given to all the members of the household to prevent against common ailments. Legiyam is prepared also soon after Diwali to help digest all the sweets and savories eaten.
The children usually do not have any affinity for legiyams and kashayams. But a milder ginger ale with a dash of fresh lemon will be welcome anyday.
I got this recipe from my sister-in-law Manju, who had prepared it recently. Today when I noticed there were plenty of ginger in the refrigerator decided to make this.
Note: This recipe yields 3 liters of juice.
