Green Chillies in Tamarind Extract or commonly called ‘puli milagai’ (in Tamil) is either a pickle or a pachadi, whatever category it falls into, this accompaniment tastes good with most south Indian foods.
Usually the chilli used for this is the long and light green variety that is mildly spicy. The famous street food of south India ‘milaga bhajji’ is made from this variety of chilli.
Did you know that the chillies; the little demons, has healing powers too? Yes, the capsaicin in the chillies actually can relieve pain.
It is also believed that chillies used moderately also helps lose weight. Be warned that too much can also cause harm.
To know more about chillies read ‘how hot are your chillies’ on my blog.
Now coming back to this recipe. The chillies are cooked in tamarind with a dash of jaggery. The chillies I used was not at all hot, so had to use some chilli powder. Can be eaten with dosa, bread, chappatis or any Indian flat breads, rice etc.
